If you got slightly more upset on the second reading…you found your bias.
Here’s something to try in your personal life. Find someone who doesn’t like Clarence Thomas and ask them for a specific reason (or court-ruling) that made them feel this way.
You’ll find (as we did) that they often won’t be able to tell you why. Or, if they do cite a reason it will likely be a provably media-fabricated reason like Anita Hill accusation (which she admitted later was fake and PBS even did a whole documentary exposing the truth of that whole debacle which was called “Supreme Revenge” S3EP14 and EP15 (at this specific timecode). People without a reason will nonetheless still insist they know why they hate him. The justification that “everyone hates him” somehow excuses the overt racism.
NOTE: After ~2020 PBS started suppressing that specific episode of “Supreme Revenge” (Frontline Season 37 Episode 14 Air date: 21May2019) which was an exponerating expose of the whole scandal surrounding the Clarence Thomas Senate confirmation. Instead they began releasing episodes and documentaries attacking him. PBS regularly re-numbers episodes or “rereleases” re-edited older content AS the original content or under a different show name. They then also re-upload re-edited videos to their website and sites like Youtube. It’s very deceptive. (You’ll notice it is very difficult to get clear episode lists (e.g “S02EP14”) on their websites/catalogs.) This documentary is an example.
