The Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of DNA (Francis Crick) believed that DNA was so complex that it could NOT have evolved on Earth. Furthermore, he believes that the “Panspermia” theory (that proto-DNA traveled here on asteroids or other interstellar bodies) is inaccurate, he believes the evidence suggests that it was brought to Earth intentionally by a higher intelligence and “grown” here (like the “Engineer Sacrifice” scene in the first 5 minutes of film “Prometheus”). He elucidates on this in a 1973 paper called “Directed Panspermia” (archived here on this site).

There is a recent podcast discussing how “Directed Panspermia”, and other newly discovered bits of ancient history, paranormal concepts, “newly discovered” artifacts (like the Nag Hammadi indexes), and books like ‘The Book of Urantia’ (direct link to book here) may all be inter-related resulting in a pseudo-Gnostic “Grand Unified Theory” of the true origins of life on Earth (and perhaps elsewhere).
