JE Cirlot’s “Dictionary of Symbols” is deeply Occult and is Guillermo Del Toro’s favorite. Guess that explains imagery in his films ;-)
Intentionally using heraldry and symbolism (to wink at each other across generations) is an important practice for some folks.
